so far so good January 7, 2009 Beiyan Nan I chose this one rather than the shinny LaChie because I thought this one might be better for the elimination of heat. It has been on my desk for more than 1 month. So far so good, works well with my macbook. With the Time machine software, you don't have to worry about data backup any more. The size of the closure is smaller than I expected. It also looks good, but I think they can even make the closure even prettier. After all, for electric products, the fancier the better. I have no idea about the duration of the hard drive inside. I hope it will be safe and sound for a long time.
Click....click....click January 7, 2009 Thomas C. Copler (Richmond, VA) It's been nearly a month since I bought this thing and I still don't have a working hard drive... The first Iomega was delivered promptly, but was DOA. I was then offered a replacement from Iomega if I paid the shipping! After much complaining they shipped me a replacement at their cost. Received the replacement yesterday it is not a new product, but a remanufactured one - worse it doesn't work either!!!! Now they say I have a bad power supply and are sending me another one. So far I'm not too happy, hopefully the new power supply will fix it, but I'm skeptical.
good value January 6, 2009 Cee H (Michigan) Excellent value for the money. I have been using it for over a month and have had no problems. I have noticed that you must use the on/off switch to turn it off rather than first turning off the drive (as I do with Seagate and Maxtor externals to get the "you can now safely turn off your device")message. It is quiet though warm to the touch after it's been running awhile so I turn it off when not backing up. It is also smaller than my other external hard drives though it has considerably more capacity. I am satisfied.
music storage January 6, 2009 S. Peterson (mpls mn) with over 500 gigs of music the hard drive works great, the only issue I have is that it takes time to load music back and forth on itunes, but works great otherwise
I'm Not Sure... January 6, 2009 Anthony B. Barthel (Featherbed Railroad) First of all, I did buy this on price alone. I generally buy Western Digital hard drives and have had terrific luck with those. Considering that I paid $130 for 1 TB of storage, I'm happy with the value. BUT, I wanted to put this on a router as attached storage and the two just didn't like each other. This drive crashed twice and finally I filled-out the paperwork to return the drive, but reformatted it again and backed up all my video onto it. I'll use it as remote storage.
Frankly, I think the Western Digital product is better and they offer both USB and FireWire.
